You’re interest in hair cuttings shears and scissors sharpening machines, systems, and training I suppose or you probably wouldn’t be on this blog. I understand how difficult it is to make a decision when all of us claim to be the best. I truly feel for you. It must be terribly confusing if you know little to nothing about the hair cutting scissor sharpening machine, system, and training industry. And, if you’ve been involved for awhile, unfortunately there are probably many things that you have been taught that are incorrect. I don’t mean to make you mad, but this is true. Salon scissor sharpening has been done incorrectly for a very long time. Xzacta Shears is trying to change this even though it may not happen in my lifetime. I say this because the sharpening industry is at least a multi-million dollar business and it is not going to change very easily. These people have too much money involved. But I have already made some changes. Xzacta Shears is probably the most talked about scissor sharpening machine in the industry right now. I have been called a liar, a scam, and my machine has been called a “cheap tin box”. Looks like Xzacta Shears has at least stirred up the ant hill. I don’t really know why you should believe me. I try to be transparent and I am truthful. I can only hope that you can wade thru all this mess and believe what I’m saying.
Firstly, let me urge you to be patient and take your time in your decision and please check out all of Xzacta Shears competitors. I want you to know about all the other scissor sharpening machines, training, and systems. If you go to http://www.xzactashears.com you will find links to most of my competitors. I can only tell to be extremely careful in your choice of scissor sharpening machines, systems, training, education, and such. There are many dishonorable scissor sharpening companies and individuals out there. I wish my best in making the right choice.
1. DO NOT PAY FOR A PROTECTED TERRITORY!!!! A good sharpener does not need it and if you are not good it’s not going to do you any good anyway. If you do buy a protected territory and a new Xzacta Tech moves in your area, he/she will beat the pants off of you…I’m serious! By gentleman’s agreement, I “give” you a protected territory for one year. I will not sell an Xzacta Scissor Sharpening System within 25 miles of your location for one year. In other words, I’m not going to sell my machines to your next door neighbor for one year…pretty generous on my part I think.
2. DON’T FINANCE YOUR SCISSOR SHARPENING MACHINE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!! It can be tough getting started the first year. Hair stylists do not like scissors sharpeners because so many have had such bad experiences. I jokeingly say that “I hate scissor sharpeners and now I ‘are’ one”. Of course I don’t really hate scissor sharpeners, but I do hate what they do. I see shears destroyed every day I go out to work. It makes me sick.
3. YOU CAN’T JUDGE THE BOOK BY THE COVER!!! Some of these companies have an just an ablsolutely incredible presentation. Some are extremely smooth talkers and seem so believable. You better use extreme caution.
4. WATCH OUT FOR THE SCISSOR SHARPENING MACHINE COMPANIES THAT HARP ON “THE 800 MM RADIUS!!! There are literally thousands of shears that are not manufactured with an 800 mm radius. A machine that is specifically designed to sharpen an 800 mm radius will change the angle on a shear that does not have this radius. This is a very bad thing. There is not a scissor sharpening machine currently available that by the nature of it’s design on it’s own restore a destroyed 800 mm radius. And if it did, you most definitely would not want to use it. Please listen, you can’t restore metal on a blade that has been incorrectly sharpened. I have a You Tube video on this subject. The Xzacta Shears sytem can do this at the digression of the technician. I emphatically teach them not to do it!!!!!!! The Xzacta system will honor any radius and deliver an even angle along the blade. And yes, we can even do “curves” precisely.
5. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A TORSION ON The Cutting EDGE of any Scissors!!!! Okay, you don’t believe me, please call several siccor manufacturers and find out for yourself. Scissor blades are generally curved slightly to aid in keeping the blades engaged. It is generally called the set. Don’t buy into the “torxed-out boys”
6. THERE IS ONE WAY AND ONE WAY ONLY TO ATTEMPT TO REMOVE AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF METAL ACROSS THE LENGTH OF A SCISSOR BLADE! THIS CAN ONLY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY USING THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE FLAT OR WATER HONE MACHINE!!! This is just pure physics. The patent pending Xzacta Guide Machine at the time of application was the only one presented this way. While not impossible to do with some of the other systems, it is extremely difficult and requires incredible hand skill. There is a patented machine that teaches this way, however there patent was not presented this way and because of such, in my humble opinion, the patent should have never been granted. I think they got very lucky in sliding this thru the patent office. Yes I have used this machine and if it was what it was supposed to be, you wouldn’t be reading this right now and there would not be an Xzacta Shears LLC
7. WATCH OUT FOR COMPANIES THAT REQUIRE A SALES QUOTA FOR SCISSORS SALES! They usually may not tell you this until they have you hooked. Selling scissors can be difficult until you gain the trust of hair dressers with outstanding sharpening.
8. WATCH OUT FOR CONTRACTS! There is no contract with Xzacta Shears. If you are going to get into a contract, please, please, please spend a little extra money and have it reviewed by an attorney!!! Also, if the contract you were given before training is not the same as the one you are given to sign….run, run, run, and don’t look back.
